Find Local Foods this Winter
Some of us don’t want to wait until May for our next haul of local foods or other goods. Thankfully, even in the cold months ahead of us, we’re not without options.
On Green Bay’s west side, visit the Market on Military’s Winter Market for local vendors, handmade goods and seasonal treats. While it might be tempting to hole up at home on a winter weekend, it’s worth making an appearance to shop for seasonal local produce, local meats, locally made cheese, farm fresh eggs, bakery items, truffles, cider and more.
You’ll find the market inside the BMO Bank building on Military Avenue, behind The Pancake Place, a long-running, an award-winning Green Bay restaurant. It’ll open this Saturday, November 15th and last until mid-May, running on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and with special market dates on November 29th and January 31st.
Maybe there’s a particular farm you keep an eye out for when you visit the farmer’s market in the summer months. Consider looking online for their website or social media to see if you can place an order, or give them a call. You could also see if a farm you like has a store on their farm where you can pick up items. Or, consider SLO Farmers Co-op’s Community Supported Agriculture program, through which you can purchase a subscription to their produce and meats, or the Farm Fresh Xpress or Farmer’s Best delivery services.
To enjoy the works of local artisans, consider the Artisan Alley Indoor Market at the Bellin Building in downtown Green Bay. Look for a handmade soap, candle, baked goods, or piece of jewelry or art to bring home with you. This market has already begun, and it’s running every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through December 13th.

The summer growing season may be done but there are still great ways to connect with area farmers and enjoy local food and goods!
